Celtic manager Neil Lennon has provided an update on Diego Laxalt after the Uruguayan defender dropped to the bench this afternoon.
Greg Taylor was named in today’s starting eleven as the Bhoys boss selected a mostly unchanged lineup from Thursday’s fixture at home to Lille.
The AC Milan loanee has picked up a knock but, as evidenced by his appearance in the matchday squad, it’s not too serious.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland [14:28], Lennon said: “He’s had a slight foot problem but it’s nothing too serious, and Greg is a very able accomplice in that position, and he’ll know the opposition well.
“Odsonne [Edouard], we want him back in the team, I thought Patryk [Klimala] had a fine game the other night, but he’s our main man, and he’s played well in the last couple of games.
On the selection of the midfield today, the manager would continue: “It was great, they gave us a much-needed boost and energy, and they’ve earned the right to play again.
“So it was a little bit difficult to leave the likes of Scott out, and your Rogics, and your Christies, but they’ve earned the right to play again.”
So far, at half-time, there is definitely more of that energy we witnessed on Thursday night, but there has still been a lack of enough incisive end product.
David Turnbull has again looked like one of the stand-out players, effectively bursting forward from midfield to link up with Edouard at times.
His set-pieces are also far more threatening than what we’ve witnessed from Ryan Christie this term.
As for Laxalt? There was no need to risk him today if he’s carrying a knock. Hopefully, he is back in the starting lineup soon.
