Celtic player ratings as Martin O’Neill’s double is delivered vs Dunfermline

Martin O’Neill has completed Celtic’s league and Scottish Cup double.

After a marathon of a season, Celtic have delivered when it mattered, running out deserved winners over Dunfermline.

We have seldom seen a first-half as comfortable as we did from the Celts today; goals from Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels secured a two-goal cushion at the break.

It wasn’t quite as much of a breeze in the second, but the trophy is on its way to Paradise.

Who was your Celtic MOTM vs Dunfermline?

Celtic player ratings vs Dunfermline

Viljami Sinisalo – 6/10

Sinisalo wasn’t at fault for the goal, but we can’t forget about a couple of shaky moments that could’ve resulted in a different scoreline.

He still has areas of his game to work on.

Alistair Johnston – 7/10

Another fine day at the office for Johnston, who has been such a welcome presence since his re-introduction to the team from injury.

His block led to Cooper’s goal, though this was merely a moment of misfortune.

Auston Trusty – 7/10

By the standards of Celtic’s defence, it was a quiet day for them today, and the centre-backs didn’t have a great deal to do.

Was unfairly booked for a 50/50 wrestle with Chris Kane in the second half.

Liam Scales – 8/10

Another stellar performance in what has been a very, very assured run-in from the Irishman. Massive credit to him.

The attackers may have made the difference, but the Hoops’ defenders have also stepped up in the season’s end.

Kieran Tierney

Callum McGregor – 8/10

Bang on the intensity, the captain was comfortably in charge for large parts of the game. A vintage Hampden performance from McGregor.

When you consider that he’s playing through an injury, it just makes his consistency more impressive.

Arne Engels – 9/10

Engels’ energy and passing range have been a huge asset since his return to the team, but his goal threat was equally on show today.

A fabulous player, who we could really do with next season.

Benjamin Nygren – 8/10

Nygren is criticised for not providing enough other than goals, but he absolutely did that this afternoon.

The Swede’s final ball is seriously underrated, and his weight of pass led to several chances, including Kelechi Iheanacho’s third.

James Forrest – 8/10

Showed all of his class from the start, offering something that none of Celtic’s other wingers bring to the table.

Forrest is the opposite of a reckless winger. He keeps the ball, and more often than not, gets the half-yard and does something with it. He was enjoyable to watch today.

Daizen Maeda – 9/10

Maeda’s finish was a thing of beauty, and evident of a quality striker who is absolutely at the top of his game.

John Tod’s error in the lead-up to the goal was no coincidence. When Maeda is in your presence as a defender, you’re never comfortable.

He wasn’t the only Pars defender given a headache by the 28-year-old.

Hyunjun Yang – 8/10

Yang can look uncomfortable on the left at times, but he was another one who oozed confidence in the first-half. A performance worthy of his new contract.

Docked a mark for stealing a run from Kelechi Iheanacho in the second half, when he was offside and the Nigerian was on.

Celtic substitute ratings vs Dunfermline

Kelechi Iheanacho – 9/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10
