Celtic player ratings vs Dundee as Tomas Cvancara’s horror show scrutinised

Celtic have been rescued by Kelechi Iheanacho to defeat Dundee.

The striker, a substitute for Tomas Cvancara, scored his first goal of the calendar year to keep the Hoops’ title hopes alive.

The performance was far from the prettiest, but the Martin O’Neill helps the team get the job done once again.

We scrutinised the player’s performances…

Celtic player ratings vs Dundee

Viljami Sinisalo – 5/10

Unable to prevent Simon Murray from equalising from the spot, Sinisalo wasn’t a busy man for much of the rest of the game.

In possession, some of his direct passing in the first-half showed signs of promise, but provided few material attacking returns.

Colby Donovan – 3/10

Unable to make much contribution in the final third, Donovan’s defensive deficiencies and lack of press-resistance were shown up, not only by his concession of a penalty.

One of his less impressive performances since his first team breakthrough.

Auston Trusty – 5/10

Not an awful lot to write home about regarding Trusty, who was involved far less defensively than usual.

Liam Scales – 4/10

Nowhere near as involved as he usually is in possession, Scales’ biggest issues today came from his defending.

A real afternoon to forget for the Irishman; we have gotten used to much higher standards from his and Trusty’s partnership.

Kieran Tierney – 4/10

An uncharacteristically sloppy day for Tierney, which was symptomatic of the team’s performance as a whole.

He was withdrawn for Saracchi after 75 minutes.

Callum McGregor – 4/10

Short of his usual standards, the captain’s performance lacked sharpness after a two-week rest during the international break.

His sloppiness proved contagious as the game went on.

Your INSTANT REACTION to that win 😅

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10

Oxlade-Chamberlain could’ve been through on goal early in the first half, had his control been better.

Three successful dribbles in 67 minutes marks a solid in-possession contribution from the midfielder, who was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI.

Benjamin Nygren – 7/10

The goal may not have been his, but Nygren looks like a player with confidence after a joyous week of qualification with Sweden.

No less than five key passes, more than double that of any other Celtic player. Unlucky with a few of his attempts too.

Hyunjun Yang – 6/10

As Celtic’s attack faded away, so did Yang, on a day of little attacking involvement for the winger, other than his goal.

Tomas Cvancara – 2/10

Sometimes as a striker, it’s just not your day.

‘Big Tam’s performance left a lot to be desired on several fronts: his finishing, decision-making and all-round tidiness were desperately lacking. Hooked and replaced by Iheanacho after Murray’s equaliser.

Daizen Maeda – 7/10

After a solid, energetic performance, Maeda’s withdrawal after 76 minutes was a surprise, but vindicated when Marcelo Saracchi’s assist from the winger’s usual area led to the winner.

His intensity really is unparalleled.
