Well, that was… hard to watch.
It was an absolute downer of a night for Celtic and Wilfried Nancy, as Motherwell simply played them off the park in a 2-0 win.
It’s difficult to overstate just how outplayed the Hoops were tonight. In possession, out of possession, in the dugout..
It was brutal stuff. If you missed it, be glad. Here are player ratings from what was almost definitely Celtic’s worst performance of the season so far (and there’s some competition there).
Sum up Celtic’s performance against Motherwell in one word…
Celtic player ratings from Motherwell defeat
Kasper Schmeichel – 2/10
Fit to play or not, Schmeichel was unable to give the team any guidance in possession.
To top it off, his suicidal pass to Engels led to Motherwell’s second goal, killing the team off.
Anthony Ralston – 2/10
It’s getting very hard watching Ralston persistently being used in a role he is so desperately unsuited to.
It gets to the stage where you just think he’s out of his depth, and you actually feel a bit sorry for him, really…
Auston Trusty – 5/10
Defended the box well at times, especially in the first-half. Got dragged into a few silly battles, though.
In possession, one of many who look unable to carry out what is being asked of them.

Liam Scales – 3/10
Every Celtic fan and their uncle knows that speed of passing has never been a major strength of Liam Scales’ game.
But watching him in situations like the first half, where he is getting so many touches of the ball, can get maddening.
Kieran Tierney – 4/10
Didn’t contribute much to anything on his return to the wing-back role.
There were worse performances in the first half, but Nancy opted to take Tierney out.
Callum McGregor – 4/10
You will seldom see a Scottish Premiership game in which Callum McGregor is less involved than he was tonight.
Some often criticise him for being poor on the ball, but in order to be poor on the ball, he has to receive the ball.
Paulo Bernardo – 1/10
Just about everything that could’ve gone wrong for Bernardo in the first half, went wrong for Bernardo in the first half.
A troubling performance by the midfielder on a priceless opportunity from the start.
Where does Wilfried Nancy go from here?
Yang Hyun-Jun – 6/10
Yang repeatedly received the ball in poor areas and remained positive and intense. He did some of the basics that others didn’t tonight.
The final ball often wasn’t there, but even when moved to his unfavoured left side, he tried. At least he tried.
Daizen Maeda – 3/10
Barely in the game.
Quite dumbfounding to see him so ineffective after he’d been such an important cog in the last few Celtic performances.
Benjamin Nygren – 3/10
Did not receive the ball to feet once in the first half. Baffling stuff.
In the second, he was more in the game, and showed glimpses of why he can be an effective player… but we need a lot more.
Reo Hatate – 3/10
Another making a return from injury and looking barely ready for the challenge.
When Hatate isn’t at his best, he can very quickly become a major hindrance on the team – this is probably the main reason why he’s never gotten a big move.
Celtic substitutes ratings vs Motherwell
Shin Yamada – 4/10
Colby Donovan – 4/10
Luke McCowan – 3/10
Arne Engels – 4/10
James Forrest – 4/10
