Celtic player ratings vs Rangers as 7/10 stars but 4/10 ‘offered nothing’ in goalless draw

Celtic and Rangers were unable to be separated as they played out a goalless draw for the first time since 2017.

Brendan Rodgers handed Michel-Ange Balikwisha a debut for the game at Ibrox but the Hoops were incredibly disappointing in the first half.

For the first time since 2018, Celtic failed to register a shot in the first 45 and then almost found themselves 1-0 down, only for John Souttar’s header to be ruled out for offside.

There was no sign of life until the latter stages of the second half for Celtic this weekend

Celtic player ratings vs Rangers

Kasper Schmeichel – 6/10

Had very little to do during the game but must improve his distribution to help out his defenders.

Anthony Ralston – 5/10

Sadly not on the same level as Alistair Johnston and was a yard too slow to some passes. Struggled in the first half but looked more at home after the break.

Cameron Carter-Vickers – 7/10

The best player on the pitch for Celtic, like most weeks. At the heart of everything, won every header and leads by example.

Liam Scales – 6/10

Another solid shift at centre-back next to Carter-Vickers, who is a reassuring centre-back partner for anyone.

Kieran Tierney – 5/10

Faced a difficult afternoon against Djeidi Gassama but dealt relatively well with it. Still looks like he’s getting up to full speed.

Reo Hatate – 4/10

Looked a passenger at times and couldn’t get any rhythm when on the ball. Very sloppy performance.

Callum McGregor (C) – 5/10

Was okay in patches. Didn’t always get his passes zipping away but was solid enough.

Arne Engels – 5/10

Made a couple of good crosses early doors but faded into the game as time went on. Seemed more caught up in his battle with Mohamed Diomande.

Benjamin Nygren – 5/10

Looked really uncomfortable out wide, which is odd when he has been impressive when used in that position in previous games.

Daizen Maeda – 4/10

Offered absolutely nothing up top and just emphasised the need for a new striker to come in now that Adam Idah is Swansea City bound.

Michel-Ange Balikwisha – 5/10

A pretty underwhelming debut from the new Bhoy but it’s hard to give him too much criticism when he has only been at the club for a matter of days. A tough occasion to come into, but I’m sure he will have better days.

Substitutes

James Forrest – 6/10

Wanted to try and take on the full-back and make things happen. A couple of misplaced passes in the final third, but decent enough.

Shin Yamada – 6/10

Worked really hard when he came on, holding the ball up well and won plenty of free-kicks. A raw talent but someone who could be a shrewd little pick up.

Marcelo Saracchi – 5/10

Made a couple of silly fouls but like Balikwisha, was thrown straight into the deep end.

Luke McCowan – N/A
