Celtic are on the brink of elimination from the Europa League after losing 4-1 to Stuttgart at Celtic Park.
Bilal El Khannouss scored a first-half brace, either side of Benjamin Nygren’s equaliser, following a risky pass from the Stuttgart goalkeeper.
Martin O’Neill’s side showed signs of life before the visitors then created some extra breathing room. It could have been 4-1, but VAR came to the rescue and spared the Hoops’ blushes, although that sucker punch came in stoppage time.
It leaves Celtic with a mountain to climb in Germany next week but for now, here is how 67 Hail Hail rated the performance of each player.

Celtic player ratings
Kasper Schmeichel – 2
It feels like we are picking out holes in Kasper Schmeichel’s performances every week. He was far too slow to get down for the first goal of the night and shoulder problem or not, it isn’t good enough. It was no surprise to hear boos directed towards him.
Julian Araujo – 5
Quite worrying when your right-back offers more going forward than most of the attackers. Can hold his head high after a solid European debut in the green and white.
Auston Trusty – 3
What was he doing for El Khannouss’ second goal? It was he was playing a game of human statues with all the time he allowed the Stuttgart player to have. You can’t be that lacklustre in Europe.
Liam Scales – 3
Was so disappointing for both first-half goals conceded. Was bullied all night by the Stuttgart forwards and was made to pay.
Kieran Tierney – 4
Couldn’t get into the rhythm at all and was denied the chance to show his attacking prowess.
Callum McGregor (C) – 3
Anonymous in the middle of the park and did nothing to galvanise the team.
Paulo Bernardo – 3
Given a chance to prove himself. Instead he was far too weak when challenging for Stuttgart’s opener and offered nothing going forward. Celtic are really missing Arne Engels in the middle.
Benjamin Nygren – 4

Took his goal brilliantly by being proactive and pouncing on the mistake rather than waiting for it to happen. That’s why he starts and that’s why he is the top goalscorer.
Daizen Maeda – 2
Another game has gone by and it is another one where we are questioning what Daizen Maeda is bringing to the side right now? Seems like he has checked out and was hooked early.
Sebastian Tounekti – 4
Never has the same effect as he does when coming off the bench. Few bits here and there but not much else to say.
Tomas Cvancara – 4
Had little to no service all game and had to try and make chances all on his own. An impossible situation when you’re a striker. He will have better nights.
