In the aftermath of Celtic’s 2-1 loss to Rangers in December, Hoops captain Scott Brown spoke eloquently about what the team must do to ensure they play better the next time the sides meet.
“We need to learn now, because that’s two games in a row now where they have probably outplayed us. We’ll figure out how we’re going to play against Rangers the next time, and we’ll bounce back” Brown said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
Been on a great run since defeat
Since the loss to Rangers, Celtic have been on a great run domestically, which has seen the team take a 13 point lead at the top of the Premiership table.
However, they have not taken on Rangers since that loss in December. That all changes when the Hoops travel to Ibrox on Sunday.
The Celtic players have the perfect chance to show they took heed of their captain’s comments, by turning in a match-winning display at the home of their biggest rivals.
The Hoops players will be eager to put right what was a poor display against Rangers in December. Celtic just didn’t get going in the game, and deserved to lose.
Waiting patiently for chance at revenge
However, you have to imagine that the Hoops have been waiting patiently for the chance to put right the wrongs of the display in December.
A win at Ibrox would leave no doubt about who the best team in Scotland is. The league table probably proves that already, but Celtic will want to show that the performance in December was a one-off.
For that to happen, the players will need to show that they took notice of what Brown said back in December, and no doubt what he is going to say in the run-up to Sunday’s game.
If they have shown to do that, it could be a memorable afternoon for the Hoops at Ibrox.
