Celtic supporters appalled by Devante Cole incident during Motherwell match

Celtic supporters aren’t happy with the refereeing during Saturday’s match against Motherwell, feeling that Devante Cole should have seen red for a challenge on Ismaila Soro.

The Motherwell man appeared to kick out at the Ivorian midfielder, leaving him lying in a heap on the Celtic Park pitch.

Official Nick Walsh did see the incident as he blew for a foul and dished out a yellow card, but it couldn’t have really been a more blatant red in the eyes of some supporters.

Scottish officials have been under a heavy spotlight in recent weeks, missing a number of on the pitch incidents that have later required a Scottish FA panel to adjudicate on.

There’s also frustration on the Celtic side after Scott Brown was cited retrospectively for a nothing ‘elbow’ and Albian Ajeti was charged with simulation, much to Neil Lennon’s disappointment.

If a Celtic player had kicked an opponent in the abdomen with no attempt to play the ball, what would the reaction have been?

That’s the question many fans are now asking themselves after yesterday’s match as footage of the incident circulated online.

It will be interesting to see if as much media attention is given to this challenge as some of the others in Scottish football over the last few weeks.

These supporters have taken to social media to share their thoughts on it all this weekend…

In other news, Celtic boss Neil Lennon agrees with “astonished” Michael Stewart on worrying precedent.
