Celtic’s 5-2 Betfred Cup semi-final win over Hibernian owed a lot to a few players. Odsonne Edouard was terrific with two assists. Scott Brown of all people chipped in with two goals. But one player stood out ahead of all the others – Mohamed Elyounoussi.
The on-loan Southampton midfielder turned in possibly his best display for the Hoops, which was recognised on social media follow the game by Celtic legend Chris Sutton.
“Terrific display”

“Terrific display from Celtic 5-2, Scott Brown at the double, Elyounoussi superb. Another Cup Final” he posted on his personal Twitter account.
Elyounoussi scored two goals to take his total to seven for the season, provided an assist for Scott Brown’s second goal and was very unlucky not to score a hat-trick as he hit the post.
That shouldn’t take away from his performance though, as he was truly exceptional for the Hoops. On the back of a performance like that, it is easy to see why Southampton paid Basel £16 million for the player.
Loanee is already a fans favourite

Celtic fans have no doubt taken Elyounoussi to their hearts. He has already shown his importance to the side, and he has only been at the club for two months. The player will no doubt have even more of an influence on the season as the weeks go on.
The Celtic fans will be desperate for the player to sign for the club on a permanent basis. However, he is still a Southampton player, and they will be taking note of his performances with great interest. He is the sort of player who could help them out of their relegation battle. It will be disappointing if the player’s stint with Celtic only lasts a season. For now though, the Celtic support should just enjoy watching a very talented player.
