Chris Sutton has laid into Rangers after the Ibrox club where hammered 3-0 by Celtic at Celtic Park.

Brendan Rodgers faced his first derby without influential midfielder, Matt O’Riley, but Celtic looked like they didn’t miss the Denmark international as Paulo Bernardo put in an excellent shift for Celtic in his absence.

The Portuguese helped Celtic dominate the midfield areas as Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi and Callum McGregor added the firepower to ensure all three Scottish Premiership points remained at Parkhead.

And immediately after the full-time whistle blew, Chris Sutton, took a potshot at Rangers and praised a Celtic duo for their performance in the dominant win.

‘Outstanding’ Celtic leaves Sutton ‘worried’ for Rangers

Sutton was on commentary duty for Sky Sports this afternoon but it was on social media where he let rip at Rangers and praised Celtic captain, Callum McGregor and Kyogo Furuhashi.

Sutton said, “Celtic outstanding. McGregor ran the show once again. Kyogo sensational 👏👏Rangers were lucky it was only 3. A total demolition. I’m worried for Rangers…”

In the opening ten minutes, Rangers came out of the traps quickly and did have a couple of chances to score early on.

But, in truth, Brendan Rodgers’ side was never really in any trouble and as soon as Maeda’s goal hit the back of the net, there was only going to be one winner.

With 52.6% of the possession [BBC], Celtic also had 14 shots on goal with four on target. Out of those four three made it past Jack Butland as Rodgers’ men continued their good form in this fixture.

Defensively the Celtic backline was superb making five blocks and winning 13 aerial duels despite Rangers’ height advantage and Kasper Schmeichel played his part making four saves.

With five points now between Celtic and Rangers at the top of the table, it’s going to take something special to stop Brendan Rodgers’ side who look imperious at this early stage of the season.
