Chris Sutton has come to the defence of Celtic after both Manchester United and Arsenal were beaten in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
The former striker noted how Celtic ‘get bashed’ for some of their results and performances in the Champions League, which is sometimes justified.
But given the money that is spent by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, he feels that if Celtic were in their boots, spending ‘£300 million’ and getting beat like they did last night, then it would be ‘embarrassing’, as he posted on Twitter.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal fell to their first defeat of the season when they were outfought by RC Lens in France, whilst it was more doom and gloom for those at Old Trafford.
That’s yet another defeat for Erik ten Hag and Manchester United, this time, Wilfried Zaha-inspired Galatasaray rocked up and came from behind on two occasions to win 3-2.
Sutton highlighted those results and performances as he compared them to the European teams in Scotland.

Arsenal and Manchester United lose in the Champions League
“Scottish teams get bashed from down south in European competitions and sometimes deservedly so,” said Sutton.
“But just imagine if Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen had the luxury of spending over 300 million assembling a squad and performing like Manchester United and Arsenal… that’s embarrassing.”
Celtic’s Lazio test
It’s time for Celtic to do what Manchester United couldn’t on their own patch yesterday.
There’s no doubt that Lazio, albeit, they haven’t made a great start to the Serie A season, is a far tougher test than what Galatasaray posed for Manchester United.
But that doesn’t mean that Brendan Rodgers and Co. shouldn’t accept anything other than three points tonight.
This is the time to stick the chests out and showcase that the quality and belief is there to go beyond the group stages.
