Chris Sutton makes ‘desperate’ claim about Brendan Rodgers after Celtic beat Aberdeen

It’s two wins from two for Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.

Amid all the talk and negativity from the 2025 summer transfer market, Celtic are doing their talking on the field of play, as they proved at Pittodrie on Sunday.

Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-0, without any real threat from the opposition, with new signing Benjamin Nygren and the all-action Reo Hatate scoring the goals.

You wonder what Rodgers will be thinking post this result and performance, as Chris Sutton is clear in what the Celtic manager will want.

Chris Sutton reacts to Celtic’s win over Aberdeen

Sutton rightfully pointed out that it was a ‘comfortable’ win for the champions of Scotland, and it was a ‘powderpuff’ display from Aberdeen.

The former Celtic striker noted Hatate’s ‘absolute belter’ of a finish, and how ‘no goalkeeper in the universe’ would have stopped such a strike.

But Sutton also wanted to express that Rodgers, alongside his opposite number Jimmy Thelin, will be ‘desperate’ to add more quality to their squads following this result, as he posted on social media.

“Comfortable win for Celtic against a powderpuff Aberdeen,” wrote Sutton.

“Nygren, decent finish. Hatate with an absolute belter. No goalkeeper in the universe would have saved that.

“Rodgers and Thelin, both desperate for reinforcements. Slightly concerned with Aberdeen’s start, but it’s early!”

What does Rodgers need from the summer transfer market?

After Celtic signed Shin Yamada from the J-League, and if you also include the project transfer of Callum Osmand, the manager still spoke about wanting a striker and more goals.

So, you can add that to a list of what Rodgers wants before the September 1 deadline.

What also needs to be noted is that Hayato Inamura hasn’t made the two opening matchday squads, with Auston Trusty covering at left-back, so does Rodgers want more cover there?

Either way, here is a list of what the Celtic boss possibly wants and needs before the window slams shut.
