Celtic legend Chris Sutton believes that a convincing win over Rangers on Sunday would all but guarantee that Neil Lennon is name as the Hoops’ next permanent manager.
Lennon has been in charge for five games following Brendan Rodgers’ move to Leicester City. Results have been good so far, whilst the performances haven’t been great.
However, Sutton thinks that an emphatic victory for the Bhoys over their bitter rivals would be a huge boost to Lennon’s prospects.
“Could really do with a win”
“Lennon could really do with a win. And an impressive one at that” Sutton told the Daily Record.
“Lennon needs a win, and he could really do with getting one in a bit of style to convince people he’s the man. If Celtic take Rangers apart with a sensational display, I’d say the permanent job is as good as Lennon’s.”
For that to happen, the Hoops would need to dramatically up their game from what we have seen so far under Lennon.
Every game has been a struggle
Every game has been a bit of a struggle. The Hoops having relied on late goals to win two of Lennon’s five games in charge.
The team still seems uncertain after the upheaval of Brendan Rodgers’ departure. That lessens the chances of the emphatic victory, Celtic just aren’t playing well enough right now.
It seems more likely that Lennon’s prospects of becoming manager will still be up in the air after the game against Rangers.
