Celtic defied all the odds and earned a very creditable Champions League draw against Atalanta tonight.
Still reeling from the Borussia Dortmund defeat, the fans were hoping that Celtic could do something special in Italy and get some sort of positive result against the Serie A side.
And didn’t they just? The Celtic players worked hard against Atlanta and earned their 0-0 draw in Bergamo in a performance that was a far cry from anything the supporters have seen from a travelling Brendan Rodgers side.
Reacting to the result Chris Sutton praised Celtic’s performance as the Hoops travel back to Glasgow with a precious Champions League point.
Chris Sutton hails ‘top-class’ Celtic heroes vs Atlanta with Rangers dig
Sutton was clearly over the moon at his old club getting a result in Italy and in a subtle dig at Rangers into the bargain.
Taking to social media channel X, Sutton said, “No celebrating a draw like others do… but a brave, organised defensive display from Celtic… Schmeichel a top-class goalkeeper and some of the last-ditch defending was excellent from Trusty and Scales.
“A bit of pragmatism from Brendan Rodgers playing Idah up top👏👏☘️
Celtic looking good heading into next two Champions League fixtures
With four points now on the board, if Celtic can win their next two fixtures at home against RB Leipzig and Club Brugge, a play-off place will be pretty much guaranteed for Brendan Rodgers.

And who knows, even automatic qualification can be achieved now that the two most difficult opponents are out of Celtic’s way.
Dinamo Zagreb away is a winable fixture and you would have to fancy Celtic to take care of Young Boys at Parkhead in January.
This season’s Champions League campaign is certainly shaping up to be a memorable one for the Celtic fans.
