Chris Sutton says Adam Idah was ‘furious’ with Celtic teammate minutes before final whistle

It’s time for Celtic to pick themselves up and go again.

Celtic’s defeat to St Johnstone on Sunday was deserved, as it was another wake-up call for Brendan Rodgers that, despite the team’s success, something just isn’t right and he needs to fix it.

Perhaps that’s what you get when you dominate like Celtic have for a very long time now, because even the smallest of things seem to feel and act like a big problem.

It’s pretty simple, the opening 45 minutes were pretty poor and Rodgers rightfully rang the changes at the break, including hauling off the out-of-sorts, Nicolas Kuhn.

Things were far better during the second period, but ultimately a relegation-fighting St Johnstone side held on and, not only secured the points, but stopped the champions-elect from scoring.

In the dying moments of the match, Celtic had an ample chance to score when substitute Luke McCowan saw his effort saved at point-blank range.

Whilst that was a big moment during the match, it’s what followed that caught Chris Sutton’s eye, who was on commentary duty for Sky Sports.

Adam Idah angry with Hyunjun Yang as Celtic lose to St Johnstone

After McCowan’s shot was saved, the ball was recycled back into the box and towards Hyunjun Yang, inside the penalty area, on the right flank.

Adam Idah was waiting right in front of the goal and hoping for his teammate to just drill it across the box for a simple two-yard tap-in.

Instead, Yang cut the ball back, thinking Idah was making a run towards that direction, and some words were exchanged between the two following that miscommunication.

Sutton caught it instantly and realised Idah’s anger towards his teammate, because it was another huge moment in the match, and the final whistle would then be blown minutes later.

“Adam Idah is furious; he is having words with Yang,” said Sutton.

“But, what a save from Fisher. The take from McCowan is brilliant. He must have thought that he had scored. What a performance from the St Johnstone goalkeeper.”

Idah and Yang are now knocking on Brendan Rodgers’ door

Kuhn needs dropping, and there are others within the XI who are lucky to be starting right now and might be out of the XI for the Kilmarnock match at the weekend.

But if Kuhn is out of the XI, then that vacates a space for an attacking player to come in, as Yang and Idah will be keen to take that spot.

Naturally, putting Yang on the right might be the way forward, but perhaps Idah could go up top, with Daizen Maeda and Jota on the flanks, unless he wants the drop the latter too.

Either way, changes need to be made.
