Celtic wrapped up Christmas with a win at Livingston to go into the New Year fixture schedule with confidence.

Wilfried Nancy has now picked up two wins in a row after his first four games as the new Celtic manager ended with straight defeats.

Celtic closed the gap to Hearts to just three points and head to Motherwell knowing that a win by four goals or more will send the Bhoys back to the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

But Celtic’s win at Livingston was a bit chaotic as Nancy’s attacking style shone through as did the team’s defensive frailties.

And speaking about Nancy’s style, Celtic hero Chris Sutton delivered his verdict on the Hoops under the Frenchman as well as the penalty award that left David Martindale fuming.

Chris Sutton says Celtic penalty was ‘harsh’ as Hoops hero gushes over ‘Wilfball’

Sutton can be one of Celtic’s harshest critics whenever he sees something at the club is not quite right.

And after the win at Livingston, the Celtic hero pointed out what he thought about the penalty award and how ‘excellent’ the football under Nancy is.

On Celtic’s penalty award, Sutton said on Sky Sports, “Going back to the Liam Scales one at Hibs, I thought that was harsh.

“You could say by the letter of the law, that’s a penalty.”

Sutton blown away with ‘excellent’ football under Celtic boss Nancy

Sometimes, watching Celtic’s attacking style at Livingston certainly had its scary moments as, defensively, the Bhoys looked vulnerable.

However, immediately at full time, Hoops hero Sutton tweeted, “Celtic still look like they are going to ship lots of goals but some of the Wilfball in the final third was excellent.

“Very patchy at times but still a work in progress. Big win 3 points closer to Hearts.”

Sutton’s verdict on Celtic’s football under Nancy. Justified?

There are definitely signs there of what Nancy is trying to do at Celtic but, unfortunately, there are also signs of what could happen when the Hoops come up against better teams.

If the Celtic boss can’t sort out the defensive deficiencies, then winning by two clear goals will be a must in every game because right now, the Bhoys can’t be trusted to keep a clean sheet.
