One of the biggest talking points from Celtic’s 5-0 Betfred Cup win over Partick Thistle was the performance of Hoops starlet Jeremie Frimpong.
The right-back performed very well in what was his competitive debut for the team. He didn’t look out of place in the side, which is a compliment for a player who is just 18.
Frimpong’s performance attracted rave revues, but Celtic legend Chris Sutton has urged caution over the player’s progress.
“There is competition for places all over and Jeremie Frimpong has thrown his hat in to the ring at right back” Sutton wrote in his column in the Daily Record.
“Predict he has a big future”

“I wouldn’t go overboard about his display against a bottom-of-the-Championship Partick but a lot of people rave about this youngster and predict he has a big future at Celtic.”
Is Sutton correct to be cautious and not ‘go overboard’? Perhaps. It is true that the player will need to test himself eventually against better opposition.
Player deserves plenty of credit for how he handled debut

Still, Firmpong does deserve plenty of credit for not being overawed by the situation when other players might have been.
The player is just at the very start of his Hoops career, and as Sutton does acknowledge, a lot of people think he could go on to have a successful career at Celtic Park.
Frimpong might not feature for the first-team that often for the rest of the season. Still, he has shown in one game that when called upon, he is a more than capable right-back for the Hoops.
