Celtic hero Chris Sutton believes the Bhoys deserved their 2-0 win over Norwich City this afternoon, in what was something of a personal derby for him.

Sutton has a fondness for the Canaries – they were actually the first team he played for way back in the early 1990s. With a long association to Celtic also, today was an interesting one for the iconic striker, and he was on co-commentary duties with Premier Sports.

He rounded up the day’s action, stating on Twitter: “Celtic the better team. Reo Hatate superb to watch. Celtic slicker and greater confidence in the middle of the park. Norwich City not clicking in the final third. Feel for Pukki not a lot of service. Not sure Sargent on the right really is the best option!”

As we discussed earlier, Hatate was indeed the highlight, taking on his role as midfield orchestrator with aplomb on and off the ball.

The Japanese international is sparkling form ahead of the competitive action. If he can bring this kind of performance into the real stuff then he’s going to be hugely influential for us.

Others are looking sharp too – particularly Daizen Maeda and David Turnbull, both of whom found themselves on the scoresheet today.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad are certainly carrying confidence into the new Scottish Premiership campaign and there will be an expectation we can fly out of the blocks against Aberdeen.

Jim Goodwin’s side have had a decent summer themselves, warming up with victories in the Scottish League Cup, but next Sunday’s clash will be one of their toughest tests of the season.

Everyone Celtic supporter is eager to see what the Bhoys can produce after a satisfying conclusion to the warm-ups.
