Christopher Jullien has given his verdict on what has been the low point of Celtic’s season so far. The Hoops crashed out of the Champions League with a 4-3 loss to Cluj last month.
Interestingly, Jullien did not start that game, as he was on the bench, a decision that in retrospect looks to be a mistake by manager Neil Lennon.
Despite not playing in the game, Jullien defended his team-mates on what he admitted was a ‘devastating’ night for all at the club.
“We were devastated after the game” Jullien said in an interview on Celtic YouTube channel.
“Just a mistake”

“The reaction shows that it was just a mistake. We’re just human. The reaction that we showed to everyone after that game, it was really important. I hope we’re just going to keep that same level.”
Interestingly enough, since losing the game to Cluj, Celtic have won every competitive match. That has coincided with Jullien getting a run of fixtures in the game.
Towering defensive display

Jullien showed what he was made of in the recent 2-0 derby win over Rangers. He turned in a towering defensive display, which has arguably already made him a fans’ favourite.
Would Celtic have defeated Cluj had Jullien started the game? Perhaps. We shall get a good idea when the teams meet in the Europa League group stages.
It is good to see that Jullien and the rest of his Celtic team-mates have recovered from what was a poor night for the club. Hopefully the Hoops can now go on a lengthy unbeaten run, and banish all memories of that defeat.
