There was a moment of concern for the Celtic support when centre-back Christopher Jullien had to be taken off after suffering an injury in the recent 3-1 win over Kilmarnock.
The player managed to walk off the pitch, and looked ok. Indeed, after the game, he stated on social media that the injury wasn’t a serious one. He did admit though, that he had to ‘be careful’ regarding the injury.
Neil Lennon also confirmed to the Daily Record that “Christopher Jullien is fine”. That is good news for the Hoops, as Jullien has been in fine form in recent weeks.
However, even though he seems to be fit, Jullien should still be rested for Wednesday night’s Betfred Cup tie against Partick Thistle.
No need to risk player

There is no need to risk Jullien for a game in which the Hoops defence – with all respect to Championship side Partick – should be comfortable.
It makes far more sense to have the player available for the upcoming matches against Hibs, Cluj and Livingston before the next international break.
More important games are in the future

Jullien will be needed for those games, more than he would be for the Partick Thistle clash. Celtic do have the players available in the squad to take Jullien’s place.
Kristoffer Ajer seems certain to start the game. Hatem Abd Elhamed could play alongside him. He has already played for the Hoops at centre-back. There could even be a return to the side for Jack Hendry, who has not featured this season, who could make his return against Partick.
There is no doubt that the Betfred Cup is an important trophy for the Hoops. It has been the launch pad for the three trebles in a row won by the club.
However, that does not mean that players cannot be rested for the game against Partick. Indeed, it makes sense to rest players during the Hoops’ busy schedule. Jullien should be one of those players rested.
