Former Celtic striker Craig Beattie believes that the Hoops will retain the league title even if they draw with Rangers in Sunday’s Glasgow derby.
The Hoops currently hold a 10 point lead over their bitter rivals, and Beattie thinks that lead is more than enough for the defending Champions.
“If you don’t lose, I think the title’s in the bag” he told Sky Sports News, as reported by Sky Sports.
“I don’t think Rangers can pick up anywhere near the amount of points to challenge, let alone go on and win the league.”
Strengthened the lead
Since Celtic’s 1-0 loss to the Ibrox side in December, the Hoops have strengthened their lead at the top of the table. Credit must be given to the players for managing to set aside distractions to keep winning games.
Beattie is probably right in what he says. But the Celtic players won’t be taking anything for granted. The supporters will also want to see the Hoops gain revenge for their loss against Rangers.
Put a marker down
A draw would all but clinch the league title, but a win for Celtic would put a marker down for next season. Neil Lennon will also be looking for a win to help state his case to be the next permanent Hoops manager.
The Hoops should win the title no matter the result on Sunday, but all at Celtic will be looking for an emphatic win.
