Celtic’s draw against Dundee United at Tannadice today has again left supporters questioning the future of players in the first-team squad.

Many of the verdicts aren’t positive.

Undoubtedly some players need to be moved on this summer, either because they aren’t good enough or because they have ambitions to play elsewhere.

One prospect we don’t have to have any concerns about is David Turnbull.

He was our best signing of the summer transfer window and again, in flashes, against United he showed he has the ability to thrive at Celtic.

It wasn’t his best performance at Tannadice, but he was still one of our most creative players in the first half and should have had the opportunity to impact the game in the final half an hour.

The youngster hasn’t had an easy season, first snubbed by Neil Lennon then having to be introduced into a faltering team and tactical setup.

Even in the team, he can’t seem to convince his coaches he deserves to stay on for 90 minutes. The midfielder has been substituted off consistently, often to the ire of Celtic supporters.

Still, when you think of a new manager coming in and improving our players, it’s exciting to think of Turnbull most of all.

When Brendan Rodgers arrived at the club in 2016 we saw massive strides taken by players such as Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor and James Forrest.

That’s what an elite level manager can do with a player like Turnbull next season and beyond. We need someone such as that to take charge, put faith in our best prospects and start to build a new team.

These fans remain impressed by Turnbull’s ability, taking to Twitter today to share their thoughts on his performance at Tannadice…
