Former Celtic boss Davie Hay has a paid a huge tribute to Celtic centre-back Christopher Jullien. The defender’s headed goal in the 2-1 win over Lazio reminded him of the type of goal Celtic icon Billy McNeill would score for the club.
“His goal at the end to top it all off put me in mind of some of Billy McNeill’s headers. I can pay him no greater compliment than that” Hay said, writing in his column in the Evening Times.
Hay was also impressed with the £7 million summer singing’s performance overall. He believes that he can go on to become a great centre-back for the Hoops.
“Really top defender”

“He has everything in his locker to be a really top defender. He has the height and the physical stature of course, but the more he gets used to his surroundings, the more we are seeing that he has real footballing ability too.”
The fee Celtic paid for Jullien will look like a bargain should he continue in his impressive run of form. He was very good for the Hoops against the Serie A.
Jullien has also down well to recover from a poor performance in the recent defeat to Livingston. He has shown that he has learned from his mistakes, which can only be a good thing for a defender.
Player’s Hoops career is off to a good start

It is still very early in Jullien’s Celtic career. He has played only 16 games for the Hoops. However, it is a very good sign for his Celtic career that he has been compared to Billy McNeill by such an authority as Davie Hay.
To be fair, it was his goalscoring ability and not his defending ability, but still, that is a very big compliment. Jullien’s next Celtic test is when he comes up against in-form Aberdeen striker at Pittodrie on Sunday. Hopefully Jullen turns in another performance that is worthy of the highest of praise.
