The Hoops have already won the title, Rangers are secured in second place, and the game is all about the bragging rights.
Just another game
Therefore, there shouldn’t be that much stock put into the result of the game. Celtic’s managerial hunt should not be influenced in any way by the goings-on at Ibrox on Sunday lunchtime.
If the Hoops go on to win the game, it will be a day of celebration for the support. It will also be confirmation of Celtic as the best team in Scotland.
Three points on the line
But that is all it should be. It should not be used to decide if Neil Lennon gets the Celtic job on a permanent basis. It is the same case if the Hoops lose on the day.
A defeat should not be used as evidence that Lennon can’t get the job on a permanent basis.
The Celtic job is too important to be decided on the evidence of just one game.
Glasgow derbies are always important. But for once, the outcome of the game isn’t the be all and end all. In time the Hoops will announce their new manager. Sunday’s result should play no part in that decision.
