Fans let ex-SFA referees know exactly what they think of their Celtic penalty verdict vs Kilmarnock

The Celtic penalty decision has clearly annoyed all the correct people.

Kilmarnock boss Stuart Kettlewell was fuming after watching Kelechi Iheanacho score Celtic’s spot kick to ensure all three points went to Parkhead.

There have been a couple of former referees that have given their verdict on the penalty call despite the SFA explaining the Celtic spot kick to a tee.

Mark Clattenburg said Celtic should not have been awarded the penalty and Dermot Gallagher shares the same view on the Bhoys’ penalty award.

Next up is former SFA referees Des Roache and Steve Conroy who gave their tuppence worth and what they said about the VAR decision didn’t go down well with the Celtic support.

Ex-SFA referees say Celtic should ‘NEVER’ have been awarded a penalty

Roache and Conroy make their views clear on refereeing decisions on their social media account whenever anything controversial happens in Scottish football.

Taking to X, both said on The Ref’s View, “The penalty at end of Kilmarnock v Celtic was NEVER a penalty kick.

“The ball deflected off a defender to hit the player. Where was he meant to be? We must be in for a lot of penalties this year if that’s given.

“John Beaton should’ve been stronger & not accepted that VAR.”

It’s fair to say that this view was not shared by many, if any, Celtic fans.

Celtic fans obliterate ex-referees’ penalty verdict

Celtic fans have a deep distrust of current and former referees and this was shown in this thread.

@FaeTheYY replied, “Imagine not knowing the rules.” as the referee account replied, “Yeah, Willie and the SFA are making them up to defend their own guys. Never a penalty.”

The next Celtic fan makes a very good point and said:

@TamMichaelL was also having none of it and said, “It’s a penalty all day, everyone is looking for that if it’s for their team. Ball going towards the goal and hits the defender’s arm. Get real.”

And finally:

Whilst Brendan Rodgers and his team will forget about this and prepare for the League Cup tie against Partick Thistle, there is no doubt this will be spoken about for the rest of this week and beyond.
