Five things we learned as Celtic comfortably brush Aberdeen aside

Add as preferred source on Google

Celtic are two wins from two in the Scottish Premiership after defeating Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The Hoops have an excellent record against the Dons and haven’t lost there in their previous 17 league visits before the game.

Jimmy Thelin’s men tested early doors as Kasper Schmeichel was forced into a couple of saves but Brendan Rodgers’ side weathered the storm and found themselves in front as Benjamin Nygren prodded home Kieran Tierney’s cross.

It was cruise control for the visitors after that point and the win was wrapped up when Reo Hatate’s beautiful curling effort clipped off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Performances may not be perfect but it’s maximum points already and with that, here are five things we learned from that win.

Benjamin Nygren is a super star

We perhaps didn’t see the best of Nygren in the win against St Mirren but we certainly did against Aberdeen.

Nygren ran the show in the middle of the park, spraying all kinds of passes and played his part in both goals.

The Sweden international is playing in a deeper role than he was at FC Midtjylland but seems to be loving life at Celtic and is already becoming a fan favourite.

Kieran Tierney has adapted well to his new role

Tierney left Celtic as a boy but has returned to the club as a man.

Now in his second spell, Tierney is one of the more experienced pros in the side and therefore has new responsibilities.

Throughout the game the left-back could be spotted bellowing instructions to his fellow teammates, including those older than him.

Tierney was subbed early after Brendan Rodgers revealed he was sick at half time but he is still easing himself.

You would expect that from a model professional anyway, but it’s always good to see.

Celtic need to end these slow starts

In the end it was a comfortable win for the Hoops but it’s also two games in a row that Celtic have been slow out of the blocks.

For the first five-to-10 minutes, Aberdeen looked on top and tested the defence a few times. There were also several misplaced passes throughout the opening stages before Celtic got into their rhythm.

This can’t be happening in the Champions League or against stronger opposition as the Hoops will be punished.

Is it time to drop Adam Idah?

Rodgers has stuck with Adam Idah through thick and thin but today didn’t help his cause.

Idah only had 20 touches before being hooked for debutant Shin Yamada shortly after Celtic’s second goal.

To make matters worse, the Ireland international failed to register a shot on target and a maximum of two throughout the game.

There’s only so long this can go on and it feels like that time is coming up.

Brendan Rodgers must plea to the board to get wingers in

Without sounding like a stuck record, if no more wingers come into the side, questions will need to be asked.

Daizen Maeda hasn’t got going at all while James Forrest and Hyunjun Yang remain the only current options available on the wing.

Nygren had a brief spell out there once Arne Engels was brought on but it was another signal to say that they need to give Rodgers what he needs and quickly.
