Celtic’s defeat to Hibs has created more VAR drama after Auston Trusty saw red at Celtic Park as former FIFA referee Mark Clattenburg delivers his verdict on the decision.

The American defender was given his marching orders after Celtic boss Martin O’Neill shared the ‘violent conduct’ charge from VAR which resulted in the red card.

Trusty has now suffered his second dismissal this season after the Celtic defender was sent off against Hearts at Tynecastle.

What would be your message to the Celtic players?

However, Clattenburg has sympathy for Trusty as he says the ordering off at Celtic Park was ‘harsh’.

Clattenburg says Trusty was ‘unfortunate’ to see red vs Hibs at Celtic Park

Trusty has been at the centre of many controversies this season as the Celtic defender puts himself in the spotlight again but it seems this red card was not his fault.

Clattenburg exclusively told 67 Hail Hail, “Auston Trusty can feel himself very unfortunate to receive a red card.

“He is being held by the hand at a corner kick and tries to release the hold. There is no malice used in the act to release his hand and the VAR should not have made an intervention to recommend a red card.

“I would prefer the corner kick to be stopped and both players warned of their actions.

Is Auston Trusty becoming a problem at Celtic?

Trusty’s red card at Hearts was deemed harsh by many fans, as is his ordering off against Hibs at Celtic Park, but is he becoming a liability?

Reacting how he did to the Hibs player holding his jersey gave VAR the opportunity to make the decision to send him off.

As did his positioning at Hearts when Trusty was caught wrong-footed before he pulled the Tynecastle striker down.

Added to Trusty’s controversial ‘kick’ to Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland’s head, the American appears to be getting himself into awkward situations unnecessarily.

Martin O’Neill needs to take Trusty aside and have a word because at this late stage of the season, Celtic can ill-afford to be missing key starters as the title race heats up.
