He may have only been on for 20 minutes, but you can’t have watched Giorgos Giakoumakis for Celtic today and come away feeling anything other than impressed.

After almost 2 months of fitness-building and squad-integration, the Greek forward finally got a decent runout against Ferencvaros in our 2-0 Europa League win at Parkhead this afternoon.

The striker came on for Liel Abada and spent his cameo throwing himself into everything, using his body, and making himself a powerful goal threat. In short, he spent it building up the Celtic fans’ excitement over what he’s going to bring to the football club.

Within minutes of coming on, he immediately caught supporters’ attention with an impressive overhead kick. The technique was spot on, but the timing was just a touch off.

But it wasn’t only that which caught the eye. His off-ball movement was particularly impressive too. Look at how often Giakoumakis was able to find space in the penalty area in those final 20 minutes. Not to mention his clever run that opened up room for David Turnbull’s late one-v-one.

Celtic addition Giorgos Giakoumakis looks like being a handful

All in all, the former VVV-Venlo striker looks like a powerhouse. A player who can use his body to hold the ball up whilst also having a succifient level of technique to do damage himself in the final third.

Can we honestly say we have another striker like him? Or another player outright? He followed on from the decent few minutes he got at Fir Park and showed even more tools to his arsenal today.

So long as he now stays injury-free, he can make a big impact at Parkhead. He provides Ange Postecoglou with an option he doesn’t have anywhere else in his dressing room. Now, it’s all about ensuring he remains an option and doesn’t take any longer to be able to play a more substantial period.

Celtic fans will want a proper look at him on Saturday against St Johnstone, and why not? He looks ready for more minutes and was certainy hungry to impress today.

It’s an outing, however brief, that had the Celtic support itching to see more. Here’s a look at some of the reaction to his display:
