Celtic are in Ireland for tonight’s friendly match against Cork City.

However, there is silverware on the line, so there will no doubt be a competitive edge to what is the inaugural Cork Super Cup clash.

SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will host the historic clash as thousands of fans from Ireland and afar pack out the 45,300 capacity stadium.

The Hoops kicked off their pre-season friendlies schedule with a 1-0 win over Queen’s Park on Friday night. And they’ll be looking to continue their 100 percent record this evening.

Celtic starting XI locked in for Cork Super Cup

There is no Kieran Tierney in the matchday squad as he continues to build up his fitness on the training ground, despite travelling to Cork.

Hayato Inamura has been handed his Celtic debut, while the likes of Colby Donovan, Dane Murray and Ben Summers get the chance to impress from the start.

There’s also no room for Irishmen Adam Idah or Liam Scales.

What is the Cork Super Cup?

Celtic and Cork City both confirmed the creation of the Cork Super Cup earlier this year, and it is set to be an annual summer event.

Cork City vs Celtic will be the inaugural match. It is the shared brainchild of the Cork GAA and Druid Sport, a sports marketing agency.

The Celtic game is expected to boost the local economy by a whopping €6m, with a near sell-out crowd expected at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

It will only be the third ever soccer match played at the stadium and the first competitive men’s fixture, marking a historic day in Irish sport.
