Chris Sutton has praised David Turnbull for scoring in the second game running after Celtic’s 3-0 win at 10-man Ross County on Saturday.
Against St Mirren last time out, when David Turnbull equalised for Brendan Rodgers’ side, he proceeded to be his fingers between his ears when celebrating.
That was mentioned by Chris Sutton and he added ‘no fingers in the ears today’ as he praised David Turnbull for his ‘brilliant’ strike that opened the scoring for Celtic.
With Reo Hatate seemingly out of action with a hamstring injury until the New Year, Chris Sutton now thinks the Scotsman will start the all-important Champions League clash at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, as he told Sky Sports Football (04/11/23 at 2:45 pm).
The 24-year-old has started back-to-back matches and played just over an hour at Ross County, so you would expect that Brendan Rodgers is saving him for the trip to Madrid.
Either way, Chris Sutton seemingly suggested that David Turnbull is now doing his talking on the pitch after falling out of favour.
David Turnbull praise
“No fingers in the ears today,” said Sutton. “It’s simply about David Turnbull doing his talking on the pitch. We know he has a brilliant strike on him. Eventually, if you give him time and space around the edge of the box he can do that to any opposition.
“But it’s about raising his level of performance game in and game out, then giving Brendan Rodgers, when everybody is fit, food for thought.
“He will play Tuesday, I suspect, yes.”

Champions League tie
Whether Turnbull likes it or not, he isn’t at the level of Hatate, whose magic in the middle of the pitch, and ability to take the ball in difficult situations is going to be missed.
But as the former Motherwell man proved this week, he has got a strike from distance in his locker, which could come into use against Atletico Madrid.
Three games in and the Bhoys are only sitting on one point. Not what was planned, but the team now have to dig deep and produce something really, really special.
Out of all the games that were going to be played from Group E, let’s be honest, the trip to Atletico Madrid was going to be the toughest.
So, why not take it head-on and just go for it because it’s better going down with a fight than crawling to just another point or defeat?
