Callum McGregor will lead out Celtic at Hampden Park for the first time since that disappointing day in May.

McGregor missed his penalty against Aberdeen as Celtic were beaten in the Scottish Cup final via penalty shootout.

The Celtic captain said it was the worst day of his career, as his 100 per cent record of never losing a final at Hampden Park came to an end.

This time, he will be hoping to bury his demons by claiming victory against Rangers to advance to the Premier Sports Cup final.

Callum McGregor not fazed by Hampden Park return

Beating Rangers will be the sole goal for the 32-year-old, who admitted that the idea of returning to a place where he experienced the worst moment of his career just a few months earlier doesn’t concern him.

“I’m much more positive than negative,” said the Hoops skipper.

“You’ve got to deal with disappointment as a footballer.

“I’ve had so many good days at Hampden, so there was bound to be a bad one at some point.”

One thing that will give the midfielder plenty of confidence is his brilliant record against Rangers.

Over the previous 44 games he has gone up against the Glasgow derby neighbours, McGregor has won 24 of them, losing 12 and drawing the other eight.

On this 45th meeting, the only thing that will matter is a win and getting to the final.
