What a game and what a moment for Hyeongyu Oh, as he took the chance Brendan Rodgers handed to him with both hands during the 4-1 win over Hibernian.
Celtic got away with one following the first-half showing against St Johnstone last time out and it seems as though that remained in the back of Brendan Rodgers’ head ahead of the visit of Hibernian.
Kyogo Furuhashi is still Celtic’s main guy up top, but it was the right call to hand Hyeongyu Oh a rare start, and boy did he make it count.
A little fortune, but he was up and running in five minutes. Before his second goal was far better and proof of what he is capable of when leading the line.
Hyeongyu Oh took to Instagram to react to his Man of the Match performance by stating ‘Focus on this sound’.
In the comments section of the 22-year-old’s post, Gustaf Lagerbielke sent fire emojis to his teammate, whilst Matt O’Riley responded with: ‘Ma mannnn!’
Hyeongyu Oh deserves to start against Kilmarnock
It’s going to be interesting to see what changes Rodgers makes for the weekend because certain players deserve to keep their place now.
On paper, Oh is a back-up striker, fair enough. But his performance and goals against Hibs should be rewarded with another start – although, some think another striker should be brought in when the transfer window re-opens.
Now, what’s interesting here is that there have been calls for Rodgers to play Oh and Kyogo together, so perhaps this is the time to do so.
It’s not easy being a back-up option because there isn’t much rhythm to your game, but you have to applaud Oh for taking his chance here.
