‘I’d rather be’ – Chris Sutton reminds Rangers of natural order despite shock Celtic win

It wasn’t to be for Celtic this afternoon as they lost out to Rangers in Glasgow.

The result was poor and the performance, at times, was worse as the Hoops allowed their neighbours to leave the stadium with three points despite Celtic dominating the Glasgow derby late on.

Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate scored to haul their side back into the game having gone 2-0 down in the first-half. But Hamza Igamane, the Ibrox sub, would win the game for Rangers 3-2 with a late strike that, to be fair, was a stunner.

Chris Sutton was in the Sky Sports commentary box at Celtic Park this afternoon and he was surprised to see his old side lose the game. But he pointed at Celtic’s vast Premiership lead at the top of the division which, even after defeat at Parkhead, sits at a whopping 13 points.

Chris Sutton reminded fans of Celtic’s vast Premiership lead over Rangers

Sutton took to social media to congratulate Rangers on their win. However the big Englishman did what he does best and that was remind them of the gap at the summit.

“Superb advert for the Scottish game. Igamane took his goal superbly and deserved of winning any game,” he tweeted.

“Bottom line is the gap at the top is 13 points with 8 games left. I know who I’d rather be. Fair play to Rangers who play well when the pressure and expectation isn’t on them…”

Gers fans will probably take Sutton’s post as an insult but, at the end of the day, it is simply stating facts.

What Sutton said about Celtic’s lack of squad depth

The Hoops are streets ahead of their rivals and one good result for the Light Blues won’t be papering over any cracks.

One thing Sutton also pointed out, however, was how thin Celtic’s squad looked when they had to try and make changes to put things right.

Yang and Adam Idah came on but those were the only two tweaks made by Brendan Rodgers.

For Sutton that was a bit of a red flag.

He posted: “One concern for Celtic is a couple of injuries and the bench looks pretty bare…”
