‘In truth’ – Chris Sutton sums up Celtic’s meek Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty perfectly

If anyone can capture the fan mood about the Champions League exit to Kairat Almaty, it’s Celtic hero Chris Sutton.

Sutton is never afraid to put his forthright opinions across whenever Celtic’s results are good, bad or indifferent

However, the Hoops hero was flying around on media duty whilst Celtic toiled against Kairat Almaty last night and a series of tweets Sutton sent summed up Celtic fan feeling perfectly.

Especially the one he sent when Sutton landed at Stansted when Celtic crashed out of the Champions League on penalties.

Chris Sutton’s exasperated social media posts on ‘disappointing’ Celtic

Celtic fans watched a turgid first 45 minutes where Brendan Rodgers’ side managed just one shot on target.

James Forrest’s late header was the only time Celtic tested their goalkeeper and Sutton was quick to call it out.

The Celtic hero first tweeted at half-time, “Celtic look leggy. In truth neither team has looked like scoring but Celtic very disappointing in the final third. No real quality or link up or combination play. This could get nervy…”

With Celtic supporters hoping the second-half would be a big improvement, they were sorely disappointed as an embarrassing 0-0 draw played out.

And as the first-half of extra time kicked off, Sutton put, “Flying back to Stansted now… when I land will Celtic have gone through??”

Little did Sutton know, the worst was yet to come.

Chris Sutton slams Celtic’s Champions League ‘gamble’

By the time the Celtic hero’s plane had landed at the airport, Luke McCowan, Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda had all missed their penalty kicks sending the Hoops out of the competition.

So when Sutton discovered this, he simply said, “The gamble didn’t pay off… turning phone off…”

And that’s exactly what Celtic did with the Champions League. They gambled. And lost.

All summer long Celtic have been pushing and asking fans for their hard-earned cash through their incessant and never-ending merchandise releases.

If the Parkhead board were as good at spending money as they are at asking fans for it, Celtic would be in with a chance of winning the Champions League.
