New Celtic signing Matt O’Riley has reacted on Instagram to his first match at Celtic Park in front of tens of thousands of supporters.

O’Riley produced an accomplished midfield display today, especially in the first half. He wasn’t shy to show off his passing ability and vision, picking out the runs of a number of attacking players.

For his first go in the pressure pit of Paradise, it wasn’t half bad. He could’ve even had a goal to his name after missing a golden chance inside the box.

He’s clearly delighted to play at the famous stadium and sent a message to fans on Instagram tonight, with photos, saying: “First game at Celtic Park. What a place!🍀 Support was incredible today. We got there in the end!💚”

O’Riley certainly looks the part. He’s just the latest in a long line of Ange Postecoglou signings who have arrived from relative obscurity to become instant hits with the Celtic fans.

He needs to produce on a consistent basis, of course, but as competition for Reo Hatate, Tom Rogic and David Turnbull, he’s more than adequate.

Postecoglou will likely be calling on his services again vs Rangers on Wednesday night.

If he thought the atmosphere was good today, just wait until he experiences 60,000 Celts roaring on the team in the derby.

Despite only being 21, he has excellent composure, so the heat of the Rangers game shouldn’t phase him too much. It’s another big ask for him to perform but I actually have confidence he’ll cause problems for them.

Bring it on!
