We continue our series of articles with freelance journalist and co-host of the Lazio Lounge podcast Alasdair Mackenzie regarding the upcoming Celtic and Lazio Europa League matches. On this occasion, we discussed Celtic’s in-form striker Odsonne Edouard.
Alasdair has disclosed that Lazio know all about the Frenchman – and there is a reason for that. The reason is that they have been linked with the player in the past. However, Alasdair isn’t sure if there is much in those reports.
“Lazio are aware”

“Lazio are aware of the talents of Odsonne Edouard as he’s been linked with the club a couple of times (albeit not very convincingly) and they’ll pay close attention to him” he said.
Perhaps the most intriguing thing to take from Alasdair’s comments is the fact that Lazio ‘haven’t been convincingly’ linked with the player.
The Scotsman reported last month that Lazio were among a host of clubs who were interested in signing the player.
However, that might be a transfer that ends up not happening. Of course, should the player put on a man of the match display, then the Italian side may firm up their interest.
Edouard is currently one of the most exciting young forwards in Europe. This has been shown in his performances for the French-under 21 side. In four games he has scored nine goals, which is a remarkable record.
Could play into Celtic’s hands

It is not surprise that Alasdair believes that Lazio will pay ‘close attention’ to Edouard. However, that could play into Celtic’s hands.
If Lazio spend all their time focusing on Edouard, it could open up space for the Hoops’ other attacking players. The likes of James Forrest and Ryan Christie could have a field day should Lazio make that mistake.
The game is set to have huge repercussions in the group both teams are in. A win for Celtic would give the Hoops seven points and leave them very close to qualifying for the last 32. Whereas a win for Lazio would give them six points and give them a real chance of making progression.
Odsonne Edouard is bound to play a part in the game, hopefully he continues his excellent run of form.
