Izaguirre must be benched for Celtic's potential Pittodrie title party

Saturday could be a special day for Celtic. The Hoops will win their eighth title in a row with a draw or win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

The Hoops will surely want to win the game though, to clinch their eighth successive title in style. Neil Lennon could be thinking of making a few changes for the game, from the side which laboured to a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock in the last league game.

A change which must be made has to be the dropping of Emilio Izaguirre from the starting line-up. The veteran Hoops left-back has struggled since replacing Kieran Tierney in the starting line-up.

It doesn’t seem likely that Tierney will be back in the Hoops side any time soon, therefore Lennon should select Jonny Hayes in place of Izaguirre for the trip to Pittodrie.

You would imagine that Hayes would be well-up for the task of playing against his former side. Especially with the chance of winning the title.

It should also be remembered that in Izaguirre’s last visit to Pittodrie, he was so poor he was substituted at half-time and replaced by Hayes.

The bottom line is that the Hoops are really missing Kieran Tierney. However, there is nothing that can be done about that at the moment. Celtic just have to get on with things.

That means picking the best side available to win, which means a start for Hayes over Izaguirre.
