James Forrest and Greg Taylor update after Sunday Celtic absences
Celtic stars James Forrest and Greg Taylor are likely to pull out of the Scotland squad for upcoming matches against Denmark, Moldova and Austria.
Both players were expected to at least be part of today’s match squad at Ibrox against Rangers, per the manager’s Friday press conference.
However, Forrest was nowhere to be seen and Josip Juranovic was a surprise inclusion at left-back.
Ange Postecoglou updated supporters on both players’ situations after the match and, thankfully, it doesn’t sound too serious.
As quoted by The Scotsman, he said of Forrest’s potential Scotland inclusion: “I would say it is unlikely. He was close [for the Rangers game]. We had him in the squad. He trained yesterday and he just didn’t feel 100 per cent.
“It is a long season and we didn’t want to unnecessarily throw him in there. I was hopeful. As of this morning, he was still in the squad, and we had to pull him out.”

On Taylor he continued: “Again, I would say unlikely [he will be fit for Scotland], but I will leave that to the medical teams. Greg wasn’t ready today so I think unlikely.”
Getting Forrest back fit as soon as possible is crucial and I would feel a lot happier if he spent the next two weeks getting himself right at Lennoxtown rather than being part of the Scotland set-up.
Postecoglou admitted today it was Forrest’s absence that impact Celtic’s tactical flexibility with regards to Kyogo Furuhashi. The winger is crucial when we have limited options in the wide areas.
The chances of him being fit for Ross County sound good though.
