Celtic supporters are celebrating progression to the first cup final of the season and have James Forrest to thank.

The winger came into the game in the second half and changed the dynamic of the encounter, at a time that Celtic badly needed it.

I had actually tipped him to start the encounter given the strength of Ange Postecoglou’s comments in his pre-match press conference.

The manager went with Liel Abada instead, who was quite quiet throughout his time on the pitch without much impact.

Forrest, however, looks primed to start against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night after adding an electric spark to the Celtic performance.

He didn’t just net the winning goal after doing well to find space in the St Johnstone box, but in general, looked as good as he has for quite a while. He laid on a golden chance for Jota as well.

I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t given his first start in over three months when the Celts travel to Germany later this week. He can bring renewed focus and intelligence to this front three, perfectly complementing Kyogo and Jota.

After more than a year of injury problems, getting him fit and firing could actually be crucial for Celtic’s quest for trophies. Hopefully it sharpens Abada up too, who can play well but is still looking a little bit inconsistent.

Supporters were absolutely overjoyed by Forrest’s impact, taking to social media tonight to share their thoughts…
