James McFadden was impressed with Craig Gordon during Celtic win

Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon was singled out for praise by BBC Scotland on Thursday night, after a solid performance in goal for the Hoops.

The veteran shot-stopper was not called into action too many times throughout the 90 minutes against AIK but did make one crucial stop in the second half.

Chinedu Obasi drifted in from the left flank with the ball at his feet, bamboozling the Celtic defence. However, the attacker could not find a way past a sprawling Gordon, who stood tall to snuff out his effort.

It was kind of moment that reminds everyone why he is a long way from being finished at Celtic Park.

Currently under pressure in his position after the Fraser Forster signing, it was a good moment for the player. With opposition chances few and far between, he needs to impress in these kind of fleeting moments.

James McFadden was certainly impressed.

As quoted by BBC Scotland (29/08 live match page, 19:08 & 19:43), he said: “Amazing goalkeeping from Craig Gordon – that’s what we’ve been used to seeing from him his whole career.

“Obasi looked favourite to score but Gordon makes himself big and pulls off a fantastic save.

“Generally, when Celtic have had to defend they’ve done it well. They’ve dealt with everything that’s come into the box and Craig Gordon has been assured in goal.”

Will it be enough to keep his place in the team?

Neil Lennon certainly has a big call to make ahead of Sunday’s match at Ibrox. Does he keep Gordon in the side or does he again turn to Forster like the weekend clash against Hearts?

For me, Gordon is probably looking the sharper of the two ‘keepers right now. Forster didn’t have much of anything to do against the Jam Tarts but did have one shaky moment in the first half.

Gordon has done nothing wrong that would warrant him being displaced. The last time he played at Ibrox in December he produced a good display.

All eyes will be on Lennon’s team announcement.
