Jeremie Frimpong has risen above the harsh reception he got from some Celtic fans last night to send a classy thank you to the club.
Frimpong was no doubt treated well by staff and former colleagues at Celtic Park over the last 48 hours as he took part in press duties, training and the match at the stadium. However, some supporters chose to boo him for much of last night, apparently aggrieved by the manner of his exit to Bayer Leverkusen in January.
The player appears to have brushed all of that off, taking to Twitter after the game to declare Celtic will always be in his heart.
I personally thought the booing of Frimpong was a bit out of order. He’s caused no harm to the club and in fact managed to bank us an incredible profit.
That he would want to move to the Bundesliga from the Scottish Premiership in the middle of a dire Celtic season last year is no great surprise. Clearly, he is now flourishing for a top outfit.
I’m not saying he should have been given a great ovation either. It’s never nice seeing former players turn out against Celtic in an important fixture.
Ambivalence towards the 20-year-old would have been fine!
Still, when people pay their money they can do what they like, within reason! Clearly, there was enough grievance there for some to audibly sound their displeasure at the youngster.
Frimpong is due to face Celtic again on 25th November when the Bhoys travel to Germany for the return fixture.
In other news, Surprise Kyogo news means it’s another anxious international break for Celtic supporters.
