It could well be that Celtic right-back Mikael Lustig is out of action for the rest of the season. He picked up an injury towards the end of the recent 3-0 win over Aberdeen.

It seems highly unlikely that he will feature in the upcoming Glasgow derby against Rangers at the very least. That could mean an unexpected reprieve for Jeremy Toljan.

Lost his place in the side

Toljan has lost his place in the Hoops first-team since Neil Lennon returned to the club as interim boss. It has to be admitted though, that he wasn’t exactly at his best before Lennon arrived.

So far, he has been disappointing for the Hoops. Especially when you consider that he was probably signed to replace Lustig in the side.

Make most of unexpected chance

However, if he wants to remain at Celtic next season with a new loan deal, he has to take the unexpected chance that has come his way.

There is a good chance that Toljan could play against both Rangers and in the upcoming Scottish Cup Final against Hearts.

Should he turn in good performances in both fixtures, then he could well earn himself a deal with the Hoops.

If Lustig manages to get fit before the end of the season, then you would imagine that he would return to the side.

For now though, it looks as if Toljan will have a chance to prove himself once more. It is up to the player to take that chance.
