A Celtic hero has confessed that for once, he is no sure if he wants the Hoops to win a game. That player is Johan Mjallby, and the game is Celtic’s upcoming Europa League play-off tie against AIK.
Mjallby played with distinction for both sides. That is why his loyalties are torn on the game.
“If I am honest I was hoping the game would not take place” he said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“It’s mixed feelings as I’d rather it was not in the Europa League, but I am going to really enjoy it.”
Mjallby then gave his prediction for the clash.
“I make Celtic favourites”
“When Celtic get their attacking play going, it’s hard to stop them with so many threats. That’s why I make Celtic favourites but it’s going to be terrific.”
Mjallby may think that Celtic are favourites for the clash. If the Hoops play as well as they can, then they will be favourites to progress.
However, the Hoops will need to up their game drastically if they are to reach the group stages of the Europa League.
Performance will need to improve
The recent performances against Cluj and Dunfermline have been very under par. It will take performances similar to those against St Johnstone and the second-half against Motherwell to ensure that the Hoops get a good result in the first leg.
This tie is very important to Celtic. Going out of two European competitions in less than a month would be unacceptable. Hopefully the team will turn in a performance reminiscent when Mjallby played for the club.
