John Kennedy confirms Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is fine after injury scare

Kieran Tierney’s injury scare against Rangers has been soothed by a John Kennedy update today.

Tierney went off with a knock against the Ibrox side in yesterday’s feisty Glasgow derby. Despite starting the match on fire, Tierney’s influence on proceedings did dwindle. It was, therefore, no surprise when he came off for Jeremy Toljan mid-way through the second 45.

The big concern would’ve been how long the Scotland international was going to be out for. But fortunately, Kennedy provided us all with an update on Celtic’s official Twitter account.

Kennedy was promoting Celtic’s season ticket renewal campaign. Talking about the injury concern, he said the following:

“Tierney was ok. He was out for a period so cramped up a little bit, but we don’t see any big issues there.”

Massive relief, but does he play on Wednesday?

It will be interesting to see when Tierney actually does return to action. If he has cramped up badly, it may be best that he misses Wednesday night’s game at St Mirren.

The Buddies are looking to fight tooth and nail for top-flight survival. Therefore, the stereotypical prediction of that match would be that Saints will look to be physical. That’s something Tierney could probably do without until he fully shrugs off his knock.

Jonny Hayes more than deserves another chance after coming off at half-time against Rangers. He hasn’t been reported to have picked up a knock, so hopefully, he can come in until Tierney is ready to fire again.

Kennedy did also confirm that Dedryck Boyata picked up a hamstring knock yesterday. The Celtic assistant manager said that he will be assessed today and tomorrow. Hopefully, therefore, Neil Lennon will have an update on him at his pre-match press conference for St Mirren.

That’s probably the best news we could’ve hoped for out of the duo. Boyata didn’t look good coming off against Rangers, and Lennon did say on Celtic TV that his injury was a bad one.

But the update on Tierney is certainly positive. You could’ve been forgiven for fearing that the Celtic left-back was set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Fortunately, that doesn’t look like being the case.
