Celtic interim boss John Kennedy’s decision to start Diego Laxalt ahead of Greg Taylor at Ibrox today has utterly perplexed plenty of supporters.
Laxalt, on loan from AC Milan, was brought back into the team at Taylor’s expense with disastrous consequences.
The Uruguayan was abysmal on the left flank. Rangers regularly managed to expose him, most notably for the second goal that put them on easy street before half-time.
To Kennedy’s credit, he did recognise Laxalt was struggling and haul him off at the interval. By then, it was too little, too late.
Taylor’s presence likely would not have changed the outcome of today’s match. Celtic were poor all over the pitch. The amount of chances we missed was incredible.
However, he is not close to being as shambolic a performer as Laxalt. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind we would have been more defensively sound if the former Kilmarnock star had started.
Laxalt should be sent packing to AC Milan as soon as possible. He, and fellow loanee Jonjoe Kenny, clearly weren’t getting games at their club for a reason. Celtic shouldn’t be a career hospital for players going nowhere.
It’ll be interesting to see if he ever features in a Celtic shirt again, with just a handful of matches now left in our season.
These fans were left fuming with the decision, taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the issue…
In other news, John Kennedy has provided a James Forrest update.
