Mikey Johnston has played on three occasions for Celtic at Ibrox against Rangers. It is fair to say that the most recent performance was the most successful yet.
The Hoops attacking starlet provided the assist for Odsonne Edouard’s opening goal in Celtic’s notable 2-0 win at the home of their biggest rivals.
Johnston turned in a fine performance. He had to do a bit more defending than he usually does, but he was more than willing to do both that and get forward with the ball.
Johnston could have hidden on the day after some previous bad memories against Rangers. He played twice for the Hoops at Ibrox last season, he didn’t have the best day on either occasion.
Played out of position in defeat

It should be pointed out though, that in his performance against Rangers in the 1-0 loss last December, he was played out of position as a lone striker.
He also didn’t have the best of games in the 2-0 loss in May, but nobody in a Celtic jersey performed that day. However, since then Johnston has become an integral part of the Celtic side.
Should be one of first names on team-sheet

He has been a first-team regular under Neil Lennon, and fully merited his start against Rangers. When picking his best Celtic team, Johnston should be one of the first names on the Celtic boss’ team-sheet.
The pass to Edouard has to go down as one of the highlights of his career at Celtic so far. At only 20, he will hopefully have a few more highlights to come in Glasgow derbies.
Celtic’s current attacking quarter to Johnston, Edouard, Ryan Christie and James Forrest have been in excellent form so far this season.
They have built a platform for Celtic to go clear at the top of the league and reach the Europa League group stages. Should the quarter continue their run of good form another domestic treble wouldn’t be out of the question.
