After Celtic’s 1-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final this afternoon Portuguese winger and goalscorer Jota paid tribute to Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.
The American international has been carrying an injury for a number of weeks now and as Ange Postecoglou confirmed that he will miss the rest of the season, Jota was full of praise for his teammate.
Speaking post-match on Viaplay, Jota said. “I think sometimes people only look at the guys who are on the score sheet or assists. But these guys have been tremendous and a special word to Cameron. People don’t know how many sacrifices he does to be always playing with us and just be like the strong guy in the back.
“I’m proud of him to be in my team because he’s definitely someone that I really liked to play with and he offers a lot.”
Carter-Vickers was absolutely solid for Celtic this afternoon. Calm and composed at the back, the big defender fought for every ball.
His second-half goalline clearance just typifies the combative nature of Carter-Vickers and how he is not afraid to put himself in harm’s way for the team’s cause.
As Carter-Vickers faces the rest of the season on the sidelines, the assumption now will be that Yuki Kobayashi fills in beside Carl Starfelt.
Next up for Ange’s men is Hearts at Tynecastle next Sunday where a win will seal the title and send Celtic to Ibrox on the 13th of May as the Scottish champions for the second season in a row.
