Karamoko Dembele looked to be heavily involved in Celtic first-team training today, in footage posted to the club’s official YouTube account.
Dembele could be seen enjoying the session with Ismaila Soro, as well as taking in coaching instructions alongside prominent senior stars such as Odsonne Edouard and Mohamed Elyounoussi.
The group involved in the video looked to be a pretty restricted one, made up of players likely to have a chance of featuring against Rangers this weekend.
Still just 18, Dembele has been missing from the Celtic first-team, and indeed senior training, for much of the season.
However, he was a surprise inclusion on the bench for last week’s trip away to Aberdeen at Pittodrie. He even came into the match with ten minutes remaining as Celtic hunted for an equalising goal.
It all very much puts him in the frame to take a place in the match squad again on Sunday against Rangers.
Dembele has never played against the Ibrox side and his inclusion in a derby would be the best signifier yet that he still has a future at Celtic.
He could well feature off the bench again, especially if John Kennedy decides to get rid of the central diamond formation and boldly play a more attacking side with wingers involved.
It had been thought his contract expires this summer, but the club appear to have exercised an option his deal, with Transfermarkt changing the end date to 2022.
John Kennedy was not asked about the issue in his press conference today but we’d love to hear from someone at the club about the youngster’s future.
If he has a role to play in any new manager’s rebuild, it’d be a great bonus for curious supporters who have followed the much-hyped youngsters progress through the Celtic academy.
