Kenny Dalglish reckons that if Rangers youngster Nathan Patterson starts today’s derby, Celtic will see his area of the pitch as one to exploit.
Patterson, facing a multi-match SFA ban for breaching Covid protocols, could feature today if James Tavernier doesn’t pass a late fitness test.
The youngster has made a big breakthrough into the Rangers team this season and is highly rated by Steven Gerrard.
However, Dalglish reckons Celtic could see his selection as a potential weakness.
Writing in his Sunday Post column, the icon said: “Nathan is a very capable young man, and there will be no reservations about playing him from the start. This fixture will not faze him. But if the Scotsman is in from the first whistle, perhaps Celtic will see that as an area to exploit.
“John and his coaching staff might think there could be mileage in putting someone, such as Forrest or Moi Elyounoussi, up against Nathan.
“It all makes for an interesting afternoon, and I can’t wait to see both starting line-ups. I think all television viewers should strap themselves in, as this could go to penalties.”
Celtic have to be aggressive in derby
Regardless of who plays for Rangers today, Celtic have to be confident and aggressive. We can’t allow Rangers to become comfortable in the game and get into their rhythm. There’s plenty of evidence this season that they are efficient with the ball and can play some nice stuff if allowed.
So, whether it’s Patterson, Tavernier or anyone else, I’d expect the Bhoys to be confident of causing them problems rather than worrying about what they can do to us.

That’s easier to say in theory of course. But we know these players can apply the pressure when on top form.
The fitness of James Forrest will also be crucial.
All eyes on that team news this afternoon.
In other news, Roy Keane thinks he’s been overlooked for Celtic job.
