As Celtic slip up again in the title race, their cause was not helped this afternoon with some seriously questionable VAR decisions.
The 2-0 defeat to Hearts leaves the league title race still in the balance after Brendan Rodgers’ side failed to capitalise on
Celtic were reduced to ten men after just 16 minutes when Hyunjun Yang was adjudged to have endangered his opponent with a high boot.
But it wasn’t that decision that particularly (and surprisingly) angered Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd. The former Rangers striker was in no doubt about his feelings about the award.
Kris Boyd baffled at Hearts decisions vs Celtic
The Sky Sports pundit is not usually famed for agreeing with decisions that go against Celtic but this time he was in no doubt that the decision to penalise Tomoki Iwata for a handball was an ‘awful’ decision.
Boyd said [Sky Sports], “This is the only awful decision for me. Alistair Johnston barges into the back of Iwata. The rules are the rules, I get it, but what’s he meant to do there?
“Seriously, what is he meant to do? The penalty is given and Grant tucks it away perfectly unlike Idah.
“It was a really good penalty sending Joe Hart the wrong way but some of the decisions in that first half are baffling for me.”

VAR hits the headlines once again for all the wrong reasons this afternoon and it seems now that the video referee now has had a huge say in the title race.
With two points still separating Celtic from Rangers, there is still plenty left to play for with nine games of the Scottish Premiership left to go.
No doubt the VAR furore will drag on into next week but Celtic will need to now pick themselves up for the Scottish Cup next week where David Martindale’s Livingston await.
